Member for the Agricultural Region Mia Davies is encouraging people to nominate an exceptional young person in their community for the annual WA Youth Awards.
Established during 1999, the awards recognise the achievements of young West Australians aged between 12-25 years.
“These awards are an excellent opportunity to showcase the strength, abilities and achievements of the youth of the agriculture region,” Ms Davies said.
“There are many people throughout the Wheatbelt and the Mid West who are doing outstanding work.”
“By nominating a young person into the WA Youth awards, they will be given the recognition they deserve.”
The eight categories for the 2012 WA Youth Awards include:
· Minister for Youth’s Most Outstanding Youth Worker Award
· Innovate! BHP Billiton Award
· Motivate! Woodside Award
· Recreate! Cadets WA Award
· Create! Propel Youth Arts Award
· Activate! Department for Communities - Youth Award
· Educate! Edith Cowan University Award
· Participate! Commissioner for Children and Young People Award.
Journalists and photographers who have reported on young people and youth issues will also be recognised through the Communicate! WA Youth Media Awards.
The recipient of last year’s WA Young Person of the Year was 25-year-old Peter Darch, of Mandurah, who was honoured for his work advocating for people with disabilities and helping disadvantaged youth.
Winners will receive a $2000 cash prize, and the WA Young Person of the Year will also receive two return tickets to a European destination courtesy of the State Government Department for Communities-Youth and Singapore Airlines.
Nominations close at 5pm on Friday, 24 February 2012. Entry forms are available at
