Member for the Agricultural Region, Mia Davies is encouraging Wheatbelt and Mid West communities to get involved in the 2012 Community Services Excellence Awards.

The biennial awards celebrate outstanding work by community service organisations and individuals across Western Australia.

Ms Davies said the agricultural region was a wealth of deserving nominees.

"Regional communities depend on dedicated people volunteering their skills in a myriad of areas ranging from sport and cultural activities to emergency services."

"Whether it is the leader of the local playgroup or the Men’s Shed committee, such people play an integral role in the wellbeing of our communities."

"If you know a group or somebody who deserves recognition for their role in the community service sector, I urge you to nominate them in the 2012 Community Services Excellence Awards.

There are five categories of awards including Organisations, Regional, Partnerships and Strategic Alliances, Media and Promotion, and Individual.

During 2010 The Stage Left Theatre Troupe of Kalgoorlie took out the Regional award category. The Troupe was recognised for its creative and innovative theatre concepts and its success in reducing social isolation within Goldfields communities.

"These awards have been designed to recognise the individuals and agencies making a positive difference to communities through innovative and creative ways of working," Ms Davies said.

"Most importantly, the awards are also an opportunity to showcase the fantastic work of community service organisations and individuals from across the State."
