Nationals’ member for the South West Region Hon. Colin Holt has supported calls from the Volunteer Bushfire Association to ensure changes to the Bushfires Act reflect their concerns.
“I have spoken to a number of groups involved in fire control including the Voluntary Bushfire Association” Mr Holt said.
“This group has told me that they support the changes, but they want to be consulted in the formation of regulations that will be developed after the bill has passed”
“Country Brigades and the Department of Environment and Conservation have vast amounts of experience fighting fires in the South West and it is important this knowledge is not forgotten in any legislative changes to the Act or operating procedures
The changes are currently being debated in the Legislative Council of State Parliament with the aim of the bill being passed in time for this years’ bushfire season.
