Member for Wagin Terry Waldron is pleased to inform schools within his electorate that the Legislative Assembly will be holding the Regional sitting of parliament in Bunbury.
“Each year the Legislative Assembly holds a week of Parliament in the regional areas and 2008 will see Bunbury as the host,” Mr Waldron said.
“This means some schools within our region have the opportunity to attend the regional sitting and have parliamentary proceedings explained to them by one of the Parliament’s Education Officers in and interesting and participative activity,” he said.
Mr Waldron said Upper Primary and Secondary classes are encouraged to take advantage of this experience and it is anticipated that each visit will last for approximately 60 minutes.
“This experience will enable schools who are not able to travel to Perth the opportunity to see Parliament live and in action, on Tuesday 9 September and Wednesday 10 September,” Mr Waldron said.
“There is also the chance for Year 10 students to participate in or view the Year 10 Student Parliament on Thursday 11 September where Parliament will conduct a Student Parliament which enables pupils to become fully immersed in the parliamentary system,” he said.
Mr Waldron said the experience will enhance schools S&E social systems and active citizenship programs and encourages schools to take up this offer.
“Schools within a 2 to 2.5 hour radius are invited to apply to take part in this Parliamentary experience by contacting the Parliamentary Education Office on 9222 7829 or my Electorate Office on 9881 1225,” Mr Waldron said.
