Western Australian State President of The Nationals Colin Holt wants South Australian’s to back Karlene Maywald and The Nationals in the State Election.
“With the Election result looking very close, The South Australia Nats have a genuine opportunity to achieve the balance of power and replicate the success we had Western Australia in giving regional areas a voice,” Mr Holt said.
“By achieving the balance of power in WA we have been able to accomplish solid policy outcomes, most notably Royalties for Regions, our major platform going in to the 2008 WA State Election.”
Royalties for Regions is a policy which sees 25 per cent of the State’s mining and onshore petroleum royalties returned to regional areas, where the wealth is produced, each year.
Mr Holt said Karlene Maywald’s leadership, support and guidance helped The Nationals WA achieve the balance of power at the last State Election.
“If people living in regional South Australia want to see dollars spent outside the metropolitan area then helping Karlene Maywald and Wilbur Klein to achieve the balance of power is the only way to make a real change,” Mr Holt said.
“I hope Karlene and Wilbur find themselves in the same position The Nationals WA did after the State Election, with both sides of the political divide asking for our support to form government,” Mr Holt said.
The Nationals WA have thrown their full support behind Karlene Maywald in the electorate of Chaffey and Wilbur Klein in the electorate of Flinders.
“The Nationals WA have finally given regional people a strong voice in parliament, a seat at the Cabinet table and have made people recognize non-metropolitan communities really do matter. Give The Nationals SA the chance to do the same.”
