Royalties for Regions funding applications to be assessed for regional communities

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls has welcomed the tremendous response to the second round of the Liberal-National Government’s Royalties for Regions Regional Grants Scheme.
“A total of 689 applications, amounting to almost $106million in funding requests, has been received by the nine Regional Development Commissions,” Mr Grylls said.
Four main categories have emerged in this funding round: recreation, community culture, education and business based projects.
The Minister said the total value of projects seeking Royalties for Regions contributions totalled more than $989million, displaying a significant commitment to the development of regional Western Australia.
The total number of applications received by each Regional Development Commission for the 2009-10 Regional Grants Scheme was:
- South-West -165
- Kimberley - 95
- Wheatbelt - 75
- Great Southern - 73
- Pilbara - 68
- Goldfields-Esperance - 61
- Mid-West - 61
- Peel - 50
- Gascoyne - 41
“The nine Development Commissions have up to $3.5million each to provide to these projects and they will now be assessed by the Commission Boards with successful applicants being notified by the end of this financial year,” Mr Grylls said
“I commend the Development Commissions for their ongoing commitment to Royalties for Regions initiatives and look forward to the local communities enjoying the benefits from these projects.”
