Pilbara Cities - South Hedland town centre revitalisation becoming a reality, Grylls

The State Government’s plans to revitalise South Hedland moved a step closer today with the appointment of Humfrey Land Developments as the preferred proponent to develop a 1.19 hectare mixed use site within the town centre.

Lot 21 situated on Colebatch Way will provide a mix of residential, commercial, medical and retail uses.

It is the first site to be offered as part of the town centre revitalisation being project managed by LandCorp.

Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the project was a prime example of how the State Government and the private sector could work together to deliver the Royalties for Region’s Pilbara Cities vision.

“South Hedland’s town centre will become a more dynamic, accessible and inclusive space that will ensure the town becomes an attractive and vibrant place for workers and their families to settle permanently,” Mr Grylls said.

“It is especially encouraging that a West Australian private developer, historically operating in Geraldton and Exmouth, has seized the opportunity to be part of the enormous growth in the Pilbara region.

“I also commend Humfrey Land Developments for their commitment to creating indigenous investment, training and employment opportunities within the project.”

Humfrey Land Developments chief executive officer Barry Humfrey said residents would benefit from medical suites opposite the hospital and the proposed retail and hospitality to be situated on the corner of Colebatch Way and Murdoch Drive.

“We also propose a four-storey development to allow for 70 apartments comprised of one, two and three-bedroom configurations,” Mr Humfrey said.

The Minister said further private sector opportunities in the revitalisation of South Hedland would be announced this year.

Part of the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program, $23million has been dedicated to the revitalisation of South Hedland.
