The Hon Wendy Duncan MLC, Member for the Mining & Pastoral Region, has today commended the Liberal-National Government for allocating monies towards a new boating facility in Broome, following on from the delivery of the State budget.
Ms Duncan has been aware that the Broome community had been appealing for improved recreational boating facilities for some time. Ms Duncan had been working with the local Shire and State Ministers to provide this much needed facility for the people of Broome and the Kimberley, and was thrilled that it would now be a firm reality.
Ms Duncan said the Royalties for Regions allocation for the Broome boating facility, which amounted to $35 million, would improve safety and offer an efficient and sound facility for the many boating enthusiasts in Broome.
The Broome facility is proposed for west Roebuck Bay and may include boat ramps in a sheltered harbour environment and a floating jetty to permit berthing by medium-size, non-trailered vessels.
A working group would be established involving the Yawuru traditional owners, the Broome Shire and the Broome Port Authority to determine the most appropriate location and design for the facility.
Ms Duncan said that the Royalties for Regions program had yet again provided a community facility to regional Western Australia. Ms Duncan was delighted with the programs popularity and effectiveness and said that it would continue to improve existing infrastructure in all regional areas of Western Australia.”
