The projects include new sporting facilities, staff housing, youth and family spaces, a new administration centre for the Shire of Roebourne and improvements to the shire’s town and city centres.
As part of the $358.5million Pilbara Revitalisation Plan of work to support the development of the Pilbara, $20.3million funding was initially allocated to the Karratha Education Leisure and Training Precinct (KELT).
Mr Grylls said due to long lead times for the KELT, $16million of the funding had been redirected to projects that could be commenced immediately and provide significant benefits to the community.
“The remaining $4.3million will be spent on finalising the planning and design of the KELT Precinct,” he said.
Mr Grylls said the new projects aligned with the Liberal-National Governments Pilbara Cities vision, designed to create a sustainable legacy beyond mining for the region.
“Each project provides considerable stimulus to the region and addresses immediate community concerns regarding the lack of facilities for youth and functional spaces for families,” he said.
The projects include:
· $2.5million to upgrade player training and social amenities at Bulgarra Sporting Precinct
· $1.6million to implement Anti Social Task Force Initiatives
· $5.2million for staff housing in Karratha
· $1.1million to expand the Shire of Roebourne’s Administration Centre
· $1.1million to redevelop Cattrall Park in Karratha
· $3.5million to develop a Youth and Families Space in Karratha
· $1million towards the development of the Roebourne Youth Centre.
He said these projects where further examples of the Royalties for Regions program delivering enhanced infrastructure and services to country WA.
