The award recognises the significant contribution made by women to rural businesses and regional communities across Australia.
“Sue has been a stand-out contributor to rural Australia, through her business achievements, community work and participation in key leadership groups at a national level,” Mr Redman said.
Sue and her husband manage a diverse range of farming operations, including a citrus orchard, grain and pork enterprise.
Her contribution to rural leadership includes sitting on the inaugural Regional Women’s Advisory Council advising government on issues impacting on rural women and rural communities, serving on the National Rural Advisory Council responsible for national drought policy and sitting on the Regional Solutions Board.
She is actively involved with natural resource management in her region and is investigating the commercialisation of biogas as a business opportunity for piggeries.
The Minister said Mrs Middleton was selected as the WA winner of the Rural Women’s Awards in February from a group of outstanding achievers from across the state.
“This national award is further recognition of the great level of commitment and achievement by Sue in contributing to rural and regional Australia,” he said.
