A project to construct a museum and multipurpose workshop for the restoration of machinery in Denmark received a funding boost today.
Local MLA, Terry Redman presented a $49,747 Lotterywest cheque to the Denmark Machinery Restoration Group in Denmark today and spoke about the importance of the group’s work in highlighting and showcasing the history of the area.
“Since it started about 4 ½ years ago, the Denmark Machinery Restoration Group has gathered a collection of old stationary engines, vintage cars, motor bikes and various agricultural equipment,” Mr Redman said.
“Equipment like this provides an important and interesting insight into the lives and lifestyles of our pioneers and previous generations.
“As well as utilising their skills to restore these items, group members are also keen to provide tuition to school groups on basic mechanics, machining, engineering and in doing so, share their passion for old engines, machinery and vehicles with another generation.
The Lotterywest funding will assist the first stage of the building project, which will provide a much needed display area, workshop space and house a library of old books on mechanics, as well as a permanent meeting place for members.
In presenting the Lotterywest cheque to Denmark Restoration Group President, Arley Egerton-Warburton, Mr Redman paid tribute to all those associated with initiating and supporting this project.
“It is very pleasing to present Lotterywest funding that will enhance the history and culture of the Denmark area,” Mr Redman said.
