Nationals’ member for the South West Region Hon. Colin Holt has offered a prize of $500 to any South West teacher who is successful in receiving a WA Education Award for 2010.
The 2010 WA Education Awards aim to reward schools who have a focus on numeracy, literacy and science. There are also four individual awards:
• Premier’s Teacher of the Year
• WA Principal of the Year
• WA Beginning Teacher of the Year
• WA School Support Staff Member of the Year.
The award winners receive a cash prize, a percentage of which is to be used for professional learning.
“I am offering an additional bursary to compliment the 2010 WA Education Awards to further acknowledge the vital role teachers and school staff play in our communities,” said Mr Holt.
“Besides teaching our children the basics of an education, they play a vital role in developing the life skills of tomorrow’s leaders. Teachers go above and beyond in their duties and this should be recognised”
“I visit many schools in the South West and I am sure in every one of them, there is a staff member worthy of an award. I ask that anyone who knows the work of a great teacher nominate them for the awards,” said Mr Holt.
