Local Member for Wagin Terry Waldron has branded opposition Regional Development spokesman Mark McGowan’s comments that “Silly projects like Tin Horses need to be cut out,” as ridiculous and stressed it showed he does not understand the project and Country Western Australia.
“Unfortunately Mark has literally backed the wrong horse here as he obviously does not understand the great tourism value of the unique and outstanding Tin Horse Highway,” Mr Waldron said.
“Our Government has invested $70,000 from the Royalties for Regions Program to further develop the project, which has been developed from the ground up by the local community,” he said.
Mr Waldron stressed that these funds would assist the local Kulin community to further develop the Tin Horse Highway to promote the highly successful Kulin Bush Races and to enhance the Tin Horse Highway as a permanent year round tourist attraction for the region.
“This is all part of the community driven marketing plan to promote the Kulin Bush Races and the region.
“I applaud the Kulin community for what they have created and it is initiatives such as this we as a government should be supporting.
“I personally have taken overseas and interstate visitors out along the Tin Horse Highway and they have all been super impressed,” Mr Waldron said.
“This project along with the other 57 projects totalling $6.7million announced for the Wheatbelt and Great Southern regions in the latest Royalties for Regions Grants, will greatly benefit both regions economically and socially.
“Mark McGowan’s criticism shows he lacks understanding of grassroots communities and grassroots projects,” Mr Waldron said.
