Member for Moore, Grant Woodhams MLA has welcomed the government’s announcement that it will provide interim funding of $178,000 to the Gravity Discovery Centre in Gingin. The funding will allow the centre to review its operations.
“While I welcome the fact that the interim funding will provide the opportunity for the centre to review its operations and work on attracting new long term financial partners, I am also hopeful that the review will convince the Minister for Science and Innovation to continue to financially support the centre,” Mr Woodhams said.
“The Gravity Centre has proven itself to be very successful in sourcing alternative funding from industry, private individuals and state and federal government agencies but continued state government funding is needed.”
“The Gravity Discovery Centre is a leader in science innovation, education and tourism in this state and also has international standing in science research and development and plays such an important role in science capacity building, starting with introducing school children to how exciting and interesting the study of science can be, right through to being a resource for university students and international scholars alike. It also is of significance as a tourism destination for people visiting Western Australia,” Mr Woodhams said.
Past government funding and continued government funding of the Gravity Centre can be fully justified.” Mr Woodhams said.
