Member for the Agricultural Region Mia Davies is attending the 86th State Conference of the Country Women’s Association in Geraldton today.
Ms Davies said the Country Women’s Association (CWA) plays an important role in fostering strong regional communities.
“The CWA have a long history of dealing with social issues that impact on families and individuals in regional areas,” Ms Davies said.
“In good times, and during times of hardship, the CWA have been a consistent voice for regional Western Australia.”
The CWA provides community service, welfare in times of need, education opportunities and support networks for members and communities across regional areas.
The CWA is currently exploring social issues including road safety, banking procedures for vision impaired people, television advertising standards and mental health in rural and remote areas.
“I have recently become an Associate Member of the CWA and I am exceptionally proud of the community service and advocacy work the group does,” Ms Davies said.
At this year’s State Conference the symposium discussion will focus on the issue of alcohol abuse in the community.
