Just when you thought Albany has enough road roundabouts, it is set to get at least one more.
Nationals member for the South West Region Colin Holt has welcomed the significant funding for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of North Road and Barnsby Drive, a regular challenge for drivers and infamous for prangs and near misses.
“I think roundabouts and no traffic lights are real features of Albany and it great to see this flavour continue, while still tackling safety concerns at this well known dangerous intersection,” said Mr Holt.
“There are a large number of seniors in this area and school children with two schools close by, so the new roundabout will improve the flow of traffic and make it safer for road users and pedestrians,” said Mr Holt.
Financial support for the intersection has come from the Black Spot funding program which is a cooperative agreement between the State and Local Governments. Mr Holt is happy to see both forms of government securing good local outcomes.
“It is also good to see that local country roads were also funded, with $70,000 going to sealing and widening the Wingebellup road in Cranbrook and the Kojonup- Frankland Road. I am sure there are many road users in these communities who will be very pleased and breathe a little easier,” said Mr Holt.
