The Grow Zone Mentoring Program for 2010, co-ordinated by the Rural Business Development Corporation, will be launched in Perth this evening by Agricultural Region MLC Mia Davies.
The program will match nine high achievers in the rural sector, who are aiming to broaden their skills, with nine business leaders.
Mr Redman said this year’s program followed a successful three-month pilot in 2009, which received strong endorsement from participants.
“The aim of the Grow Zone Mentoring Program is to build and reshape the rural sector through the development of its most vital component, its people,” he said.
“The future prosperity of Western Australia’s agricultural and food industry relies on the people involved and their ability to turn inspiration into business reality.
“This program targets high achievers who are promising leaders and encourages them, through mentoring and guidance, to realise their full potential.”
The Minister said the program was reliant on the assistance of business leaders who were willing to share their insight and experience.
Each participant will work on individual projects in their area of interest with the support of their mentor during the next six months. The projects cover a range of areas including grains, livestock, wine, natural resource management and tourism.
