Load scheme offers flexibility during harvest, Duncan

MEMBER for Mining and Pastoral Wendy Duncan MLC has welcomed the State Government’s decision to continue the Harvest Mass Management Scheme for grain receiver operations for this year’s and future harvest seasons.

The Harvest Mass Management Scheme provides operators the flexibility required to cater for the variability in loads in transporting grain from farms to receival bins.

Ms Duncan said the scheme was beneficial because it recognised the difficulty faced when loading from farms which do not have weighing facilities.

“The scheme has helped reduce the number of trucks overloading by offering growers and transporters flexible tolerances while carting grain,” Ms Duncan said.

“I urge grain receivers to join this voluntary scheme as they will not be eligible for the extra allowances offered unless they are approved by and registered with Main Roads,” she said.

"The Nationals in government have strongly supported the transport industry in their representations on this issue and we are very pleased with the decision."

The scheme allows for an extra mass concession of up to 10 per cent for vehicles suitably rated to safely carry the additional loads.

For this year’s harvest the scheme will run from October 1 this year to February 28 next year.
