Terry Waldon MLA, Member for Wagin has confirmed walking trails in the Wagin electorate are to receive three grants to improve community access to the local environment.

Mr Waldron has been advised by Lotterywest Minister, Premier Colin Barnett that Lotterywest grants totalling over $800,000 for 38 organisations have been approved as part of Lotterywest’s Trails Grants.
The grants will assist a range of projects to create new trails for the community to enjoy Western Australia’s wonderful natural environment.
The latest round of trail grants fund community organisations and local government authorities from across the state from the Kimberley in the north to Esperance in the south set to benefit from Lotterywest’s annual Trails Grant Round.
The Trails Grant Panel convened by the Department of Sport and Recreation in partnership with Lotterywest provides advice on the applications received under the grant round.
“This annual grants program is an important part of Lotterywest’s investment to creating opportunities across Western Australia for the community to get out and enjoy our natural outdoor heritage,” Mr Waldron said.
“These grants recognize the important work of local government and the community who help to build a better environment for the community and future generations.
“The grants have wide applications including the construction of  trails for non-motorised uses, such as walking, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing or horse riding; interpretive and directional signposting along a trail;  and promotion, publicity, trail guides and maps.
“The Trails program is made possible by everyone who had played Lotterywest games with the proceeds benefiting these local community groups,” he said.
Amongst the successful grant recipients are the Shires of West Arthur, Dumbleyung and Kulin who have received a total of $37,620 towards project costs associated with the construction of the trail development, planning, construction and promotions.
“The local community gain lifestyle and health benefits from utilising the trails, getting people out and about to enjoy our wonderful environment,” Mr Waldron said.
33 cents in every dollar spent by the community on Lotterywest games is directed back to the WA community. To find out more about Lotterywest grants program, visit the website www.lotterywest.wa.gov.au/grants or call 1800 655 270.
