Nationals’ Member for the South West Region Hon. Colin Holt has welcomed the recent Government announcement to provide $5.8 million to improve and widen Chester Pass Road through the Stirling Range National Park. Funding which is long overdue.

“Chester Pass Road in a major highway with heavy traffic use this needed funding injection was overdue and is very much welcomed by all users of this road,” said Mr Holt.
“This section of highway was notoriously narrow and often had road trains and caravans competing for road, I am sure this funding will make this road safer and dramatically improve traffic flow.”
“I have been regularly contacted by concerned constituents regarding Chester Pass Road and Hassell Highway. These two highways have been in a shambolic state for a long time. I hope the Minister acts to improve Hassel Highway with the type of expedience which has been shown on Chester Pass”
The Work on Chester Pass Road is scheduled to start next month and expected to be completed in March 2011.
The contract for this rebuild was awarded after a competitive public tender process and is part of the Government’s commitment to have a minimum of $20 million of smaller and medium road contracts to be publically tendered each year.
