Member for Agricultural Region tours regional businesses with CCIWA, Mia Davies.

Hon Mia Davies MLC will accompany the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIWA) on a business tour through the Agricultural Region this week. The three day tour will include community events and meetings in Northam, Merredin, Hyden, Corrigin, Wagin, Narrogin and Boddington to familiarise the CCIWA with business issues in regional Western Australia.

Ms Davies said the tour was to provide the Chamber of Commerce and Industry with an opportunity to meet with regional business owners and managers to hear first-hand the issues these communities are dealing with and what makes country businesses tick.

"Businesses in regional areas face a range of challenges, such as labour and skills shortages, transport costs, land availability, dealing with red tape, tax, infrastructure requirements, climate variability – some of which are unique to their location and others that are common to many businesses," Ms Davies said. "Smaller regional communities are different to major centres and these areas are often forgotten when we talk about the State’s business sector."

"This is a good opportunity for regional businesses to get their voices heard and provide feedback on key issues to one of the State’s peak industry groups. "As one of the newer Members of Parliament it will also provide me with an opportunity to touch base with representatives from local Chambers of Commerce and key decision makers throughout the region." Ms Davies and CCIWA Chief Executive James Pearson will meet with local decision makers, including the local governments, in each town. The tour will depart Perth on Wednesday 11 November and return on Friday 13 November. For a full itinerary please call 08 9324 3155.
