Member for the South West Region, Colin Holt has congratulated Greenbushes on receiving the 2010 State Tidy Towns – Natural Heritage Conservation Award last Friday.

The Tidy Town awards encourage, motivate and celebrate the social, environmental and economic achievements of regional communities across Australia.

Mr Holt said this was a great win and recognises the efforts of the local community to make Greenbushes a fabulous place to live and visit.

“Congratulations to the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes and everyone in the community who worked so hard to make Greenbushes the winning town,” Mr Holt said.

“Keep Australia Beautiful estimates Tidy Town projects across Australia benefit from more than $100 million in volunteer labour each year, and I am sure many people in Greenbushes have donated their time to this project.

“It is the efforts of these individuals that make a real difference and make our communities in regional WA such a fantastic place to live.”

The Tidy Towns competition involves more than 1,000 communities and 90,000 volunteers across Australia each year.

The awards were announced on Friday 19 November at the Tidy Towns State Awards Ceremony held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Awards were presented by the Hon Donna Faragher, Minister for Environment, His Excellency Dr Ken Michael, the Governor of Western Australia and Patron of Keep Australia Beautiful WA.
