Terry Waldron MLA, Member for Wagin has urged local WA Seniors Card holders to take advantage of an additional $200 on offer for the purchase and installation of fire extinguishers, fire blankets, mains-powered smoke alarms and residual current devices.

“I recognise that the threat of home invasion and fire or electrical faults is a real concern for local senior citizens, which is why the WA State Liberal-Nationals Government is contributing more towards additional safety devices in the homes of Senior Western Australians” Mr Waldron said.
“Senior Western Australians deserve to feel safe in their homes and the WA State Liberal-Nationals Government is helping ease the cost of improved home safety for our local seniors in Wagin electorate”, he added.
From this month, the current $200 WA Seniors Card Safety and Security Rebate scheme will be expanded to $400 as part of a greater focus on fire safety for seniors.
“The initial scheme, introduced in July 2009, included the purchase of up to $200 in security devices such as alarms, security door screens and sensor lights,” Mr Waldron said.
“This expansion effectively doubles the scheme value for seniors, with forms for access to the rebate now available at Australia Post outlets.
“Seniors Card holders who have already accessed the $200 home security rebate can also apply for the electrical and fire safety rebate to feel even safer at home.”
“I urge seniors in the Wagin electorate to consider their safety needs at this time of year when fire threats to homes can increase and take advantage of the $400 in rebates to help increase home safety and peace of mind,” he said.
Mr Waldron said Western Australian Seniors Card holders had until March 31, 2012 to apply for the expanded rebate.
