Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls has released a publication outlining State and Federal governments plans for the $415million development of the Ord-East Kimberley area.
“The State’s investment in the Ord Irrigation Scheme will see a major expansion of the East Kimberley economic base and the partnership with the Federal Government ensures we have the social infrastructure critical to support people living in the area,” Mr Grylls said.
“The Ord-East Kimberley Development Plan is a comprehensive publication outlining the work being done to achieve the vision we share for the Ord- East Kimberley.”
The publication provides information on the work under way to release 8,000 hectares of agricultural lots in the Ord River Valley in conjunction with the improvement of social, community and common-use infrastructure in the region.
The project is being funded with $220million from the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program for the Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project and $195million from the Australian Government to address social and economic disadvantage in the region.
The Minister said the document provided an overview of joint Government objectives within the historical context of the Ord Irrigation Scheme and a vision for the East Kimberley’s future.
“The Ord-East Kimberley Development Plan will be particularly useful as a single reference for people seeking an understanding of key government priorities in the East Kimberley,” he said.
