About Grant

Grant considers himself a typical regional Western Australian.

Yet considering his background in the media, his flair for long distance running, his quick wit and repartee in the Parliament, and his passionate involvement with the Mid West and Wheatbelt community, Grant is anything but typical.

Schooled in Albany and Perth, Grant has spent most of working life behind the microphone with the ABC Regional Radio. Previously working for the ABC in Tasmania, South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria, Grant grabbed the opportunity to return to WA when the ABC offered him a job in the Mid West.

Grant, his wife Gabrielle and daughter Phoebe have lived in the Mid West for over 12 years. In that time he has spent a great deal of time travelling the country working on a wide variety of regional issues.

As an active participant of the Mid West community Grant is a member of the Chapman Valley Football Club, Promotions Officer for the Geraldton Speedway, the Director of the Geraldton Marathon, a Director on the Great Northern Football League and is involved with his daughter's netball and basketball teams. He also sponsors a wide range of sporting and cultural organisations.

Grant believes that getting to know many people in a multitude of communities has helped him understand the needs of what he describes as his extended family.

People in regional WA have had to fight very hard for basic services and he is determined to use his position in Parliament to ensure that all constituents are given a fair go.

Grant says while housing, health and employment are major issues in the region; it is education and educational services that are most important to him.

His major focus is to ensure that resources which are readily available for education in the metropolitan area are also available to areas of his electorate.
