Quite an achievement for someone who spent time as a farmer, then 18 years as a successful insurance agent and broker. Max was born in Wyalkatchem in the central Wheatbelt and educated at the local primary school, then later at Scotch College.
His foray into politics began in the early 80's when he was involved in the Northam Economic Development Association. After a number of years it grew into the Avon Community Development Foundation, which has been instrumental in developing the highly innovative Avon Industrial Park.
In 2001, Max was elected Leader of the Parliamentary National Party. In 2004, further to entering into a Coalition in Opposition with the Liberal party he became Deputy Leader of the Coalition and Shadow Minister for Energy and Science.

His passion for politics stems from his loyalty for regional WA. Max became heavily involved with the Chamber of Commerce and local Government to assist in improving the living standards and services for country people in his area, as well as Western Australia.
This mantra still rings true, as he continues to work diligently in his electorate and the rest of the State, to ensure country people are looked after.
