About Wendy
Born and raised on a Goldfields pastoral station, Wendy and her siblings were some of the first to be educated through School of the Air in Kalgoorlie.
She has a Bachelor of Arts with a Double major in Political Science and Australian History, a Graduate Diploma in Secretarial Studies and, more recently, a Graduate Diploma in Business from Curtin University, which she completed externally from her home in Esperance.
Wendy is passionate about rural life and an ardent supporter of regional development. She is focused on ending the country cringe, instead highlighting the positive aspects about living in the regions. In essence, Ms Duncan says that once people are attracted to the regions, the essential services needed, will follow.
Wendy says she is privileged to have so many opportunities and in return has dedicated many hours of voluntary time to advisory committees, sporting clubs and community groups.
Her entry into Nationals politics came via her role as Electorate officer for Ross Ainsworth MLA, Member for Roe, from 1994 to 1998.
In 2004 Wendy stood for State President of The Nationals WA at the Party’s Annual State Conference. She became the first female to hold the position of State President. After four and a half years at the helm, which included two Federal elections, two State elections and a major electoral boundary redistribution, she stepped down after the 2008 State election.
Wendy believes we must make sure that we develop policy that takes our self-sufficiency and national security into account and strong and vibrant regions are a key part of achieving this.
Wendy is married to Ian and mother of four. She has spent most of her life in the mining, pastoral and agricultural areas of Kalgoorlie and Esperance, giving her a strong understanding of the issues and concerns of these communities.
