About Brendon
Brendon was elected to represent the electorate of Merredin at a by-election in 2001. He became the Leader of The Nationals WA in 2005 and immediately set about charting a new course for the Party.
Under his leadership, The Nationals WA have forged a new path as an independent political party. In 2008, the party gained the balance of power in both Houses of Parliament on behalf of regional Western Australians and implemented Royalties for Regions.
In 2013, Brendon contested the North West seat of Pilbara, with a plan to increase the State Parliament’s focus on the north of the State. At the 2013 State election, The Nationals WA increased their representation in the Parliament to 12, a level not seen since 1971 and won the balance of power in the Legislative Council.
Brendon is in his second term as Minister for Regional Development and Lands. He is responsible for the iconic Royalties for Regions funding and remains a passionate advocate for making regional Western Australia a better place to live, work and invest.
Brendon is committed to ensuring Royalties for Regions can continue to deliver for regional Western Australians, and his shift to contest the seat of Pilbara is central to this. The Pilbara is an economic powerhouse of the state and Brendon wants to make sure they have a strong advocate to ensure housing, services and amenities can keep pace with growth in the region.
He has spent vast amounts of time in the Pilbara and has a strong history of delivery, which has given him a strong rapport with local communities.
Brendon is married to Susan and they have three sons, Thomas, Oliver and Jack.
