The newly restructured Central Regional TAFE has been selected as a finalist in the WA Training Awards for 2016 under the category of WA large training provider of the year.

Although disappointed that the management team for the Central Regional TAFE has been relocated to Geraldton in the recent restructure, Member for Kalgoorlie Wendy Duncan has welcomed the announcement as an indication that the standards and creative training methods at the institution are strong and solid.

Ms Duncan said that Central Regional TAFE delivers training in a diverse range of industry areas such as maritime, agriculture, land management, community services, mining and nursing.

A portable tool that allows lecturers to be at the cutting edge of workplace assessment within the mining and civil construction industry along with a beauty and hairdressing program in Kalgoorlie that provides students with valuable hands on experience in a training centre established to meet industry standards show the diverse and innovative training on offer.

“I congratulate the team from Central Regional TAFE on this achievement and wish them all the very best in taking out the WA large training provider of the year title. This achievement along with the collaboration with the WA School of Mines for an education centre of excellence in Kalgoorlie-Boulder shows we have a very exciting future ahead for education in the goldfields.” Ms Duncan said.

Winners of this year’s awards will be announced at a presentation dinner on September 23 where 42 State-wide finalists in the WA Training Awards 2016 who are contesting 13 categories for organisations and individuals will be decided.

Central Regional TAFE is the only regional TAFE in the running and will be up against South Metropolitan TAFE and North Metropolitan TAFE in the finals.
