Member for the Agricultural Region Hon Colin de Grussa encourages the Esperance community to make sure they have their say on the replacement jetty designs before the 21 September 2018 cut off.

The Shire of Esperance recently released draft concept designs for a 400m jetty that incorporates a timber historic section, a cement fishing jetty, a widened jetty head and a lowered diving deck. The designs were developed by experienced heritage architect firm H+H Architects.

Mr de Grussa said that the community had expressed concerns with previous concept designs, and congratulated the community on being active to ensure a good design outcome.

“I believe that the concept design being proposed by H+H Architecture is a good design, which recognises the important heritage aspects of our beloved tanker jetty while creating a functional new jetty that will be iconic in its own right,” Mr de Grussa said.

“I urge the community to now look forward and work together to get a usable, functional jetty which still celebrates our history as soon as possible.”

The community consultation period closes on Friday 21 September, and Mr de Grussa encouraged everyone to have their say on the concept designs.

The Shire of Esperance are running two surveys through an independent research company, one open to the general public, and a second survey that will be sent to 2000 randomly selected owner-occupiers within the Shire.

This smaller survey will satisfy the Minister for Regional Development’s request for data captured from a random snapshot of the community.

“It is so important that the community use this opportunity to share their thoughts on the concept design,” Mr de Grussa said.

“If you’ve received one of the 2000 surveys sent directly to your house, make sure you complete and return it, anyone else can fill out the general survey online.”
