Member for Moore Shane Love MLA has welcomed news that refurbishment works on the Dalwallinu Hospital are due to start in January 2017.
Building firm, Pindan has been awarded the construction tender for the $5.23 million upgrade works that have been funded by Royalties for Regions through the Southern Inland Heath Initiative (SIHI).
Dalwallinu Hospital will receive a new waiting area, triage room and child health consultation room. There will also be upgraded patient bathrooms, a refurbished kitchen, new consultation, medical records and communications rooms and improved security.
Mr Love met with local District Health Advisory representatives in Dalwallinu in December and said the upgrade works, coupled with the recent aged care announcement represented a huge boost for health and aged care in the district.
“Dalwallinu is part of a wider regional aged care housing project within the Midlands Centres Aged Housing Development which has received Royalties for Regions funding of more than $7 million for the construction of 26 Independent Living Units across the Shires of Dalwallinu, Moora and Wongan Ballidu, Mr Love said.
“There will be nine Independent Living Units built in Dalwallinu which will offer affordable age appropriate housing for local residents to remain close to the communities they know, for longer.”
Mr Love said he had fought extremely hard during his term as Member for Moore to attract investment in health and aged care in the region.
“It’s great to see Royalties for Regions investing in projects that enable ageing community members to remain in their community for as long as possible,” he added.
The Dalwallinu Hospital project is expected to be finished in December 2017.
