The Shire of Harvey will receive $478,000 from the latest round of Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) grants announced by Minister Mia Davies on the weekend.
“I congratulate the Shire of Harvey on receiving significant funding for the Harvey Community and Sporting facility, as well as the installation of lighting at Leschenault Recreation Park Oval 5. I look forward to seeing the projects come to fruition, and I know they will make a difference to people living in the Shire,” said Colin Holt MLC, Nationals Member for the South West Region.
“These grants directly support grassroots sport and active recreation in our community, which keeps people of all ages and abilities active. Communities come together around sport, particularly in areas where clubs, recreation centres and pools provide a great hub for social connection.
“This latest round takes the total of grassroots sport facilities funding since 2008 to more than $169 million, through more than 1000 projects, of which $93 million has been spent in regional Western Australia,” Mr Holt said.
“Through this state-wide infrastructure program 55 per cent of the funds have been spent in the regions under the Liberal National government. This is a valuable investment in our community and allows people living in the regions access to quality sport and recreation facilities.”
Other State Government regional sporting programs helping clubs and athletes include the Regional Organisation Sustainability Program, North West Travel Subsidy Scheme, Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme and Active Regional Communities Grants.
The Liberal National Government’s commitment to a stronger sporting system has included investing in more than 46 sporting ovals; 43 swimming pools; 92 clubrooms; 300 tennis, basketball and netball courts; 90 bowling greens and 171 floodlighting developments.
The Department of Sport and Recreation administers CSRFF annually through two rounds of small grants (up to $200,000 in total project cost) and one round of Annual and Forward Planning Grants (from $200,001 in total project cost).
The State Government also provides $10 million a year to support state sporting associations and local regional sporting associations.
