The Liberal-National Government has allocated a further $71,034 to community groups as part of the latest round of the Road Safety Community Grants Program.
Member for Kalgoorlie, Wendy Duncan MLA said that the Grants Program was made possible through funds from the Road Trauma Trust Account and are provided to assist in the development and implementation of road safety projects that attain widespread community support and participation and which heed the Towards Zero WA Road Safety Strategy 2008 – 2020 message.
A total of 12 organisations were awarded grants in this round to help fund events which included road safety elements, with 4 of these Goldfields based including:
The Shire of Leonora – for the promotion of the fatigue road safety message over the Leonora Golden Gift event.
The Eastern Goldfields BMX Club – for the promotion of the restraints road safety message over the KalVegas Classic event.
The Kalgoorlie Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service – for the promotion of the distraction road safety message at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community Fair.
The Boulder Speedway Association – for the promotion of the restraints road safety message over their AMCA WA State Title & Junior JSRA Australasian Challenge.
“Each of these organisation are proactive in promoting the awareness of road safety strategies to help reduce the burden of road trauma in our communities and are to be congratulated on their efforts,” Ms Duncan said.
“The Road Safety Community Grants Program offers ongoing funding with the Road Safety Committee receiving applications at least three months prior to the scheduled event. These are assessed bi-monthly and close on the first Friday of February, April, June, August, October and December.”
