The Nationals WA Member for Moore Shane Love MLA put Mid West and Wheatbelt infrastructure priorities front-and-centre during a meeting with Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester this week.
Mr Love said Minister Chester’s visit to WA for Federal Cabinet was an opportunity to highlight important projects across the Moore electorate, including the need to reallocate federal funds set aside to develop the Oakajee Port back into the Mid West region.
“The original Commonwealth funding was flagged for investment in the Mid West to deliver a much-needed boost to the region’s economy,” Mr Love said.
“I emphasised to the Minister that this funding should again be allocated to priority projects in the Mid West not to Perth-based projects.
“The funding could be used to boost the Midwest road freight network by addressing heavy vehicle bottlenecks in towns such as Northampton and the City of Geraldton and would require a partial development of the Oakajee Narngulu Infrastructure Corridor.
Mr Love also urged Minister Chester to allocate federal funding to the completion of the Bindoon Bypass along the Great Northern Highway.
“The Minister now has a full understanding of importance of Commonwealth funding to deliver the Bindoon bypass given the McGowan Government’s complete disregard for regional WA at the State level,” Mr Love said.
“I also stressed the importance of ensuring that any bypass must suit the needs of the local Bindoon community for safety and convenience.”
Mr Love also identified a number of priority projects which require federal funding across the Wheatbelt during the meeting.
