Shire of Katanning receives $2 million Lotterywest windfall

For more information, contact Terry Waldron (MLA).

A Katanning heritage project is a step closer to reality, thanks to a $2 million State Government Lotterywest windfall.

The Shire of Katanning will utilise the significant grant towards the all ages playground and enhancements at Piesse Lake, as part of its extensive Katanning Heritage Centre project.

Member for Wagin Terry Waldron MLA was in Katanning this week, to congratulate the local shire on its successful grant and to present the funding to shire representatives.

Mr Waldron said he was impressed with the plans to improve the aesthetics of the local town, and said there would be notable benefits for locals and visitors alike.

“I’m really pleased this local heritage project has been supported by a $2 million Lotterywest grant, and I congratulate the shire on its successful application,” he said.

“The developments will further progress Katanning and will improve the town’s liveability.

“These upgrades will also provide an increased range of social and recreational opportunities for local community members and visitors.”

Mr Waldron said offering communities increased choice was important.

“I believe that a happy community is a connected community - one with various sporting, recreational and social outlets catering for people of all ages and walks of life,” he said.

Each year approximately 1000 not-for-profit groups share in Lotterywest grants totalling millions of dollars, raised from the sale of Lotterywest games.

Lotterywest grants support a variety of projects and organisations that improve the lives of Western Australians.
