Leader of The Nationals WA Brendon Grylls and Candidate for Albany Robbie Sutton have today announced a significant $6 million commitment to deliver a state-of-the-art Motorplex in Albany.

The announcement, which came as Mr Sutton launched his campaign to win the seat of Albany, will be funded through Royalties for Regions if The Nationals WA are re-elected in March.

Mr Sutton said the Motorplex would be a major boon for the Albany community, affording the town the opportunity to host marquee motorsport events, provide driver training, and boost motor-sports activities in the Great Southern.

“Albany is perfectly placed to become the motorsport capital of the Great Southern,” Mr Sutton said.

“Not only is there enormous potential to drive tourism in the region, but a motorplex also provides a safe environment for drivers to improve their skills.”

The initial stage of the Motorplex will include a multi-use bitumen track, a drag strip, driver training facility, motor-cross, four wheel drive, rally and autocross tracks as well as a mountain bike track.

Areas have also been set aside for a speedway and go-kart track if required in the future.

Mr Sutton said the Albany community had long advocated for a Motorplex but funding had not been forthcoming.

“This project has been on the horizon for many years, and it is only through Royalties for Regions that the Motorplex has become more than a pipe dream,” Mr Sutton said.

“A recent City of Albany survey received an overwhelming response in favour of this project.”

“Now The Nationals WA have listened and I am excited by the prospect of bringing the Albany Motorplex to fruition for the people of Albany.”

Mr Grylls thanked Mr Sutton for his proactive lobbying to secure a commitment to this important project.

“Robbie has put this project front-and-centre on The Nationals WA’s agenda and if we are elected I look forward to working with him to deliver the Albany Motorplex,” Mr Grylls said.

Mr Grylls asked the Albany community for their support to build the Motorplex and allow Royalties for Regions to continue.

“The Nationals WA are the only political party solely focussed on regional WA, and the only party able to protect Royalties for Regions,” Mr Grylls said.

“The only way to make the Albany Motorplex happen is to vote for Robbie Sutton and The Nationals WA.”
