Volunteer Firefighting services in Tom Price and Carnarvon have dominated in the annual Firefighting Awards, with young and senior volunteers also being recognised as finalists.
Nationals WA Member for North West Central Vince Catania has congratulated all of the local finalists in the various award categories:
- Team Achievement
Tom Price VBFB and VFRS
- Youth Achievement Award
Callum O’Connell – Tom Price Emergency Services Cadet Corp
- Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service Award
Neil Hatt – Carnarvon VFRS
- Murray Lang Bush Fire Service Award
Morgwyn Jones – Tom Price BFB
Mr Catania said: “Our volunteer firefighting groups are an essential service, which members unselfishly give up large amounts of their time away from their families and work places to help protect our communities.
“Whether it be through their very visible firefighting efforts, attending road accidents or helping in times of community crisis, our volunteers and emergency service groups play an invaluable role.
“An important part of the awards is to help to recognise the contribution that is made by individuals and groups in our communities.”
Winners will be announced at the 2018 Fire and Emergency Services Awards ceremony on 7 September 2018 at the Perth Convention Centre.

“While winning a category will be personally satisfying to individual members or groups, what’s more important is the gratitude of the people they have helped, the communities that have benefited from their service and the State Government that relies upon them to constantly perform in the face of adversity," Mr Catania said.
