Eight Goldfields community organisations will be $280,214 better off with thanks to Royalties for Regions Community Chest Grants.
At the Central Kalgoorlie Playgroup today, Member for Kalgoorlie, Wendy Duncan MLA said that the Community Chest Fund provided one-off grants to community, public and not for profit organisations to improve and develop infrastructure and services in the region.
“The prospect of a Nature Play Area at the Central Kalgoorlie Playgroup to nurture children’s learning and development and provide an outdoor environment that is visually appealing to children, is an excellent area to see Royalties for Regions used for this purpose,” Ms Duncan said.
“It will provide many diverse and inviting play opportunities and offer tactile stimulation, imaginative play and physical challenges.”
The Fund provides voluntary organisations, educational institutions and community organisations with grants of up to $50,000 to support local projects which greatly enhance the sustainability and amenity of our regions.
Projects supported through the Goldfields Region’s Community Chest Fund in this round include:-
- The Goldfields Brass Band to purchase a purpose built trailer
- The Shire of Leonora for the Leonora Golden Gift
- The Boulder Speedway Association for drafting and surveying of site infrastructure
- The Kalgoorlie Central Playgroup for an outdoor renovations and nature play landscaping
- Dutjahn Foundation to host a Sandalwood Conference
- The Eastern Goldfields Squash Racket Association for a court automation system
- The Goldfields Education Mining Industry for a digital connections project
- The Kalgoorlie Baptist Church for a studio facility
“This funding will support region-specific priorities that are driven by local communities to assist the development of infrastructure, services and community projects that help build vibrant regions with strong economies.
Former Chair of the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission, Tony Crook, praised the Board and staff at GEDC for their hard work in reviewing and recommending successful applicants in a very competitive funding round.
“These small grant rounds make all the difference to our wonderful volunteers in community groups that provide an invaluable service to our region. They require a considerable amount of administrative work at The GEDC, but a small amount of Royalties for Regions can make a huge difference in the success of our community groups.”
