The State Government has announced $3 million in grants for exporters to help boost export opportunities for Western Australia’s agricultural and food products in Asian markets.
Member for Mining and Pastoral region Hon Dave Grills MLC said the grants, made possible by the Government’s Royalties for Regions program, would support Western Australian agrifood businesses to invest in accessing and developing high-value markets in Asia.
“The agricultural business sector is now moving towards marketing their products towards Asians markets, and The Department of Food and Agriculture will work with the agribusiness sector to deliver positive outcomes for this growing these export markets,” he said.
Minister for Agriculture Hon Ken Baston MLC announced the grants at an industry event whichlooked at the top growth opportunities in Asian markets.
“These grants will allow the already strong markets in Asia of lamb, beef and pork meats, and oilseeds, oils and fats to expand further into Asian markets,” he said.
The grants are a component of the Asian Market Success project, part of the $300 million Royalties for Regions Seizing the Opportunity Agriculture initiative.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the export grants would directly support the repositioning of agrifood businesses for international competitiveness.
“This strategic investment is a fantastic opportunity for the industries involved to broaden their commercial potential and provide a major stimulus to our regional economy,” he said.
“This is an investment that is a fantastic opportunity for industry to reach their full economic market potential, and will help regional economies thrive,” Mr Grills said.
“It’s another example of how the State Governments Royalties for Regions program is playing a significant role in Regional WA communities and local small business’.”
