Leonora District High School along with North Kalgoorlie Primary School are among 61 public schools around the State that will soon have more reason to keep active and have fun during recess and lunch times.
Member for Kalgoorlie, Wendy Duncan MLA said that both schools will receive a share in $1 million of funding for new playgrounds and shade sails which will enhance the school grounds and promote active, sun-safe environments.
Ms Duncan said that since 2011 there had been 423 schools state-wide which have shared in $7 million of funding for playground equipment and shade structures.
“Often the local parents and friends committees are left struggling to fundraise for such equipment, with smaller towns such as Leonora depending on a smaller community to find the funds,” Ms Duncan said.
“This funding eases that pressure and helps our public schools provide fun in the sun for their kids.”
Leonora District High School and North Kalgoorlie Primary School will share in $30,000 coming to the Goldfields under the program to use for projects involving creating more shade or for updating playground equipment.
