Parents and Citizens Associations at schools across the Mining and Pastoral Region will receive a dollar-for-dollar assistance grant funded by Royalties for Regions if The Nationals WA are returned to Government at the State election.
Member for the Mining and Pastoral Region Dave Grills MLC said the Grant would be delivered through The Nationals’ proposed Parents and Citizens Association Fund and would be capped at $5000 per school per year.
“The Nationals recognise the invaluable services P&C associations provide to regional schools and students,” Mr Grills said.
“This is why we have committed $8.4 million over four years to deliver assistance to regional schools under The Nationals’ innovative Plan for Regional Education.”
Mr Grills said the role of regional P&C organisations was often more than just fundraising, with many schools relying on parental involvement to run services such as school canteens, uniform shops and after school care.
“P&Cs are often an integral part of the school community and help schools to support staff and students in their academic endeavours,” Mr Grills said.
“They provide essential, often unrecognised, assistance to regional schools.”
Mr Grills said Parents and Citizens Association Fund was part of The Nationals’ $158 million plan for regional education which aimed to improve outcomes for regional and remote students.
“The Nationals understand that a quality education lays the foundation for opportunity and success,” he said.
“This is why we have outlined a plan for regional education that will ensure country children have the infrastructure, technology and support to reach their full potential at school.”
The Nationals’ Plan for Regional Education would be funded by The Nationals’ plan to increase the special lease rental paid by big miners from 25 cents per tonne to $5/t.
“The Nationals are the only party solely dedicated to the people of regional WA and we understand the unique challenges and opportunities facing regional students, families and schools,” Mr Grills said.
“I share with my colleagues the firm belief that every student should have access to a quality education no matter where they live in our State.
“Living in regional WA shouldn’t mean that students miss out on opportunities.”
