The Nationals WA Parliamentary team is in Albany for the next two days as the party kicks off a regional engagement program that will see portfolio holders meeting with community groups, businesses and local Government.
Ms Davies said The Nationals had a strong track record of maintaining a connection with grassroots voters across the State and were keen to hear first-hand the issues the Albany community wanted addressed.
“We’re bringing the team down together, we’ll be meeting with various groups and businesses, talking about issues that are important to the city and region and following these up in the Parliament or through the Party’s policy development process,” she said.
“The Nationals have a small yet dedicated team of MPs who each hold portfolio responsibilities and are developing the policies our party will take to the 2021 election.
“I’m regularly out and about across the State with our MPs in their electorates, but these visits are a good opportunity for us to present as a team so the community can get to know us all.”
Ms Davies said it was the first of a series of visits that will take place across the State planned for the year.
Over the next two days Nationals MPs will meet with Amazing South Coast, the Southern Seafood Producers Inc. Association, Grange Resources, the City of Albany, Southern Aboriginal Corporation, Headspace, Albany and Regional Volunteer Service, Albany Youth Support Association, Albany Sea Rescue, Community Living Association, Community Care, Vancouver Arts Association, Icebreakers and Fletcher International Exports.
“We’re also inviting community members to join us for a chat and a sausage sizzle out the front of the Premier Hotel from 2.30pm on Friday,” Ms Davies said.
“Even if you don’t have an issue to raise now, it’s a good chance to introduce yourself to the team and find out more about the people working hard for regional WA in the State’s Parliament.”
Ms Davies said in the current environment where the McGowan Government was targeting regional communities for funding cuts to bankroll metro projects – including slashing Community Resource Centre funding and closing camp schools – it was important for people to hear The Nationals’ message.
“We are the only party that exists in Western Australia solely dedicated to representing regional people,” Ms Davies said.
“Albany is a major regional centre and The Nationals team are looking forward to the next couple of days in the State’s Great Southern.”
