Grants to help sporting clubs buy new equipment

New bats, balls and bibs will be part of the equipment at clubs across Western Australia thanks to the latest round of the Community Sporting Club Equipment Subsidy Scheme.
Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies said the State Government scheme offered sport and recreation clubs a $500 subsidy for new equipment.
In the latest round, 625 regional clubs will receive $312,500 and 383 metropolitan clubs will receive $191,500. To date, 2,610 clubs have received $1.3 million, covering 83 sports.
“This subsidy allows clubs to upgrade equipment which has seen better days, been ruined in the course of use or lost along the way. It’s also an opportunity for clubs to add to their equipment stock and be able to field a new team or invite more people to participate,” she said.
Ms Davies said every club in WA was able to access the subsidy and urged clubs to check if they were eligible. Subsidies for metropolitan clubs come from the Department of Sport and Recreation, while subsidies for regional clubs are provided by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said he was pleased to see Royalties for Regions invest in initiatives that promoted active lifestyles in the regions.
“The funds will ensure equipment is kept up-to-date, in good condition and safe for play. Sport and recreation plays a central role in vibrant regional communities and it is important we help athletes in the regions reach their full potential,” Mr Redman said.
“Royalties for Regions has a strong history of supporting and developing regional communities through initiatives such as this one.”
Clubs receiving a subsidy in this round include Toodyay Cricket Club, Moore River Netball Club, Karratha Roosters Senior Rugby League Club, Balcatta Football Club and Mandurah Surf Life Saving Club.
Administered by the Department of Sport and Recreation, the four-year scheme provides $1 million to metropolitan clubs and $1 million to regional clubs.
