Nine shires and community groups in the Wagin electorate are among 73 WA organisations to share in more than $71,000 in grants, to deliver National Youth Week events next month.
Member for Wagin Terry Waldron MLA welcomed the nine local grants, which were earmarked to assist in the development and delivery of events that acknowledged and celebrated the positive contribution young people make in their local communities.
The grants include –
Shire of Boddington – Youth Centre Youth Expo – $1,000
The Shire of Boddington will conduct the Youth Centre Youth Expo event. The expo will focus on the theme ‘It Starts With Us’. (
Shire of Cuballing – 2016 Cuballing Youth Day Event – $1,000
The Shire of Cuballing will conduct the 2016 Cuballing Youth Day Event. A series of fun sport and physical activities will be held with local young people.
Shire of Kulin – Camp Kulin Urban Art Experience – $1,000
The Shire of Kulin will conduct the Camp Kulin Urban Art Experience event. Young people living in the Shire of Kulin will express themselves through creativity and art.
Shire of West Arthur – YAC Movie Night and Bunbury Bus Trip – $1,000
The Shire of West Arthur will conduct the YAC Movie Night and Bunbury Bus Trip events.
Town of Narrogin – Dance+Music=Festival – $1,000
The Town of Narrogin, in partnership with local youth services, will conduct the Dance+Music=Festival event.
Wandering Community Resource Centre – Flipside, Upside – Unthink the Impossible – $1,000
The Wandering Community Resource Centre will conduct the Flipside, Upside – Unthink the Impossible event. Young people will take part in a circus skills workshop.
Shire of Katanning – Katanning Kolour Run Music Festival – $1,000
The Shire of Katanning will conduct the Katanning Kolour Run Music Festival event. Young people will get to take part in a colourful fun run event followed by a music festival.
Shire of Plantagenet – Plantagenet Youth Fitness Expo – $1,000
The Shire of Plantagenet, in partnership with the Mount Barker Community College, will conduct the Plantagenet Youth Fitness Expo. A series of fitness classes will be held throughout National Youth Week.
Shire of Cranbrook – Nature Born Leaders – By Land By Sea – $803
The Shire of Cranbrook will conduct the Nature Born Leaders – By Land By Sea event. Young people will travel to Camp Quaranup to take part in a day of fun nature-based activities including canoeing and Geocaching.
“I am delighted to see young people throughout the Wagin electorate getting involved with Youth Week through this excellent State Government program,” Mr Waldron said.
“The diversity of these projects promotes inclusion and provides leadership and skill development opportunities, and I encourage as many young people as possible to get involved in these worthwhile local events.”
National Youth Week WA runs from April 8 to 17.
Mr Waldron said the 73 successful events promoted activities related to sport and art through to mental health. The week enables West Australians from the ages of 12 to 25 to get involved in innovative youth focused activities.
