People living and working in regional areas are closely connected to the land and have an appreciation for the environment and sustainable development.
Restoring Royalties for Regions
The Nationals WA were in government between 2008-2017. In that time, we delivered the revolutionary ‘Royalties for Regions’ program, which delivered 25 per cent of mining royalties back into regional WA.
With about 25 per cent of people living in regional WA, we thought that was fair.
This program delivered significant advances in health, agriculture, and tourism, but also touched every area of government. If there is a new project in your town, chances are Royalties for Regions was behind it.
Since Labor took over in 2017, Royalties for Regions is not working as it should. Labor are saying that they’re still spending Royalties for Regions money, but their accounting tricks means overall spending in regional WA is decreasing.
The Nationals WA are committed to restoring the integrity of Royalties for Regions to ensure a strong regional development agenda.
