Martin has a strong affinity with the Agricultural Region, having grown up in Merredin and Gingin and finishing his schooling in Moora. He gained a strong understanding of regional issues while farming with his parents near Gingin and always been an active volunteer in his community.
Martin’s professional background includes serving as a senior firefighter with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and public service roles advising both Members of Parliament and Government Ministers.
Martin was first elected to fill a casual vacancy in the Legislative Council as a result of the resignation of Mia Davies to contest the Legislative Assembly in April 2013.
