Spokesperson for Regional Cities; Fisheries; Veterans and Defence Issues; Asian Engagement

Ian was first elected as Member for Geraldton in September 2008.

Ian was born and raised in the Midwest and prior to 2008 spent 25 years farming grain and sheep at Eradu. He has served as a local Army Reservist, as a Grains Councillor for the WA Farmers Federation, as a member of the Western Panel of Grains Research and Development Corporation, and as a member of the Advisory Committee for the Geraldton Midwest Development Authority.

Having been the Member for Geraldton for the last eleven years, his achievements encompass finishing Indian Ocean Drive and the Southern Transport Corridor, the new Greenough bridge, Wonthella’s 500 lux lights, turf club improvements, deregulation of Geraldton Airport, installation of air conditioning in local schools, construction of a safety fence at Waggrakine Primary School, the SKA, $25 million in buildings at Geraldton TAFE, two new fire stations, the expansion of Geraldton University Centre, the separation of the John Willcock and Geraldton Senior Colleges, and the establishment of Wandina Primary School.

He is passionate about expanding Geraldton Hospital, establishing a heavy vehicle bypass, aquaculture and tourism at the Abrolhos, finding solutions to coastal erosion, airport development and ensuring reliable air travel, cruise ship expansion and improvements to NWC Highway.

He supports many local sporting associations and community organisations.

He is married to Barb, who was bought up on a farm in Kojonup, and they have 3 adult children.
