Lionel Quartermaine was born in Wagin and has spent much of his life in the Murchison and Gascoyne regions of WA. He currently lives in Carnarvon and is a small business owner as well as regional manager business and strategy for Gwoonwardu Mia, Gascoyne Aboriginal Heritage and Cultural Centre.
Lionel is Willman of the Nyoongah nation and has a wealth of experience representing Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people. He has assisted with housing, home, employment, community and non-for-profit engagement programs throughout his career as well as serving as chairman on many indigenous health and the education commissions. He is currently Chairman of Carnarvon Aboriginal Medical Service, on the board of Carnarvon Trustee Aboriginal Corporation and the board of WA Aboriginal Legal Service.
Lionel’s main focus over the years and into the future is to address the health, education and economic development of Indigenous Australians. He has cultural connections in the South West Boojarah, Wagyl Kaip and Southern Ngoonga Gnaala Karla Booj, as well as family connections in the South West, Mid West, Murchison, Gascoyne and Kimberley.
