About Wayne Sanford
Long-time Collie resident and former Shire President Wayne Sanford is proud to represent The Nationals WA as the candidate for Collie-Preston.
Wayne brings a wealth of experience to the role, having lived and worked in the region for more than 50 years. He has a strong community involvement, serving as Collie Shire President for ten years until 2017, as well as a board member for the South West Development Commission and the Bunbury Wellington Economic Alliance. His community service gives him a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges for the region.
Collie-Preston is a diverse electorate with strong links to heavy industry, agriculture, forestry and tourism. These important industries play a vital role in the region, creating thousands of jobs and contributing significantly to the local, State, and National economies. Wayne is committed to ensuring local communities in Collie Preston remain economically resilient into the future, and seeks to create further opportunities for business, industry, and manufacturing within the region.
Wayne is a strong supporter of The Nationals’ flagship Royalties for Regions program and wants to see the program restored so it can support important community projects and programs in Collie-Preston.
Local issues Wayne will focus on during the campaign include industry and manufacturing opportunities, ensuring access to quality health and education, improving water security for agriculture and horticulture, addressing labour shortages, expanding tourism opportunities, and supporting a sustainable and viable forestry industry.
Outside of work, Wayne is the former president of the Coalfields Hockey Council. He also enjoys fishing, water skiing and AFL season.
