Member for Central Wheatbelt Mia Davies MLA has welcomed the announcement of funding to support two iconic venues in the electorate.
“Royalties for Regions is making it possible for us to maintain and improve York Town Hall and Cummins Theatre to ensure they can continue to deliver professional performing arts programs,” Ms Davies said.
The Shire of Merredin and the Shire of York will receive more than $143,000 through the State Government’s Regional Venues Improvement Fund for upgrades to the historic venues.
“This current round of funding will support the completion of the next stage of improvements to the Cummins Theatre, further increasing the technical capabilities of the venue and redeveloping the public access points,” Ms Davies said.
“In York, the upgrade includes the replacement of front and back of house curtains and drapes, installation of black-out window treatments and painting of the interior of the building.”
The Shire of Merredin was successful in applying for a $40,580 grant from the fund, and the Shire of York will receive $103,170.
The Regional Venues Improvement Fund (RVIF) is part of the State Government’s $24 million investment over four years in regional culture and arts through the Creative Regions Program.
A total of $2.09 million in grants has been provided in the latest round of RVIF to improve facilities at performing arts venues across regional Western Australia.
The fund helps improve facilities at regional performing arts venues to better accommodate regional performing arts organisations and artists, as well as enabling more performing arts groups to tour the regions.
“These grants are developing tangible outcomes which support the development of culture and the arts in the Central Wheatbelt and across regional WA,” Ms Davies said.
The third round of RVIF grants opens on Monday 30 January, 2017. For more information, visit http://www.dca.wa.gov.au/funding/grants-programs/the-regional-venues-improvement-fund/
